June 1, 1918 --- January 21, 2015

Marjorie Frances Ryan, 96, died on Wednesday, Jan 21, 2015 at Iowa Specialty Hospital in Belmond. Funeral services will be held, Monday, January 26, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at the Andrews Funeral Home in Belmond, 516 1st ST. SE. Visitation for her will be 4:00 -6:00 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 25, 2015 also at the Andrews Funeral Home-Belmond and continues one hour prior to the services on Monday.

She was born June 1, 1918, in rural Lake City, IA, daughter of Arthur and Myrtle Staton. She married J. Edward Ryan on June 23, 1937, in Nevada, IA. They lived in the Dows and Ventura areas prior to moving to Kanawha, IA, where they remained for 40 years prior to moving to the Rehabilitation Center of Belmond in 2007. They were married for nearly 74 years prior to Ed's death in 2011. Together, they raised three sons - Terry, Larry and Monte.

Marjorie graduated from Lake City High School in 1936. She steadfastly overcame many obstacles to complete her education, foretelling her durable traits of resilience and perseverance. Her highest priority, throughout her married life, was as a homemaker with deep commitment to her roles as mother and wife. She was always Ed's helpmate during their farming years, doing whatever she could to assist. Later, she was employed in the sewing department at Winnebago Industries for 15 years, taking pride in her work there, as well. Always a teacher to her children, she was tireless in support of their many activities during their growing up years and beyond. She was also instrumental in nurturing Ed's younger siblings during the early years of their married life. Marjorie's sternest challenge was that of losing her eldest son, Terry, to a tragic accident in 1958. She was sustained by her love of family and deepened faith.

Marjorie is survived by her sons Monte (Candace) of Peoria, AZ, and Larry (Jane) of Waterloo; a brother Arthur Jr of Michigan; four grandchildren including Stephen (Anna), Maureen (Allan), Robin (Tadd) and Lee (Maria); and 5 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband in 2011; a son, Terry, in 1958; her parents; and siblings Eula, Lory, Jeff, Bonnie, Alice and Marvin. Memorials may be directed to the family for later determination of charitable recipient. The family wishes to express their deep appreciation to the staff of the Rehabilitation Center of Belmond for their years of loving care and support to Marjorie.
