Janet Margaret Mennenga, the daughter of Folrich and Jennie (Goeman) Mennenga, was born October 14, 1921, at Belmond, Iowa. Her parents died when she was very young. She was raised by her uncle and aunt, Heiko and Minnie Mennenga, who she knew as her dad and mom. Janet attended Pleasant Township District Number 4 School and she graduated from Belmond High School with the class of 1939. She earned her teaching certificate through Normal Training in 1939 and taught country school for 4 years. She was united in marriage to Jelto (Jake) Merle Boelman on March 24, 1944 at the Immanuel Reformed Church parsonage. This began a tradition of the family initials of JMB. God blessed this union with three sons, Jerry Michael, Joel Mark, and John Mitchell. On March 24, 2009 Janet and Jake celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. Jake died August 21, 2009.

Janet accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior at an early age. She lived her faith in God for all to see. Along with working with Jake on the farm, she taught many children and adults the lessons of Christian faith in Sunday School, Catechism, and Vacation Bible School. Teaching was her mission, but her family was her passion. She enjoyed any time spent with her sons, daughters-in-law, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins (the Mennenga reunion), extended family and friends. She loved playing games, especially cribbage. She had one perfect 29 hand.

She is survived by he three sons: Jerry (Mary) Boelman, Joel (Cindy) Boelman, both of Belmond, and John (Jan) Boelman of Gilbert, AZ. Grandchildren; Kari (Jonathan) Weitzel, Brian Boelman, Shanna Boelman, Eric (Angela) Boelman, David (Erin) Boelman, Trey Boelman, Kristin Boelman, Alina Boelman, Anna Boelman, and Kaitlin Boelman. Great Grandchildren; Charlotte Weitzel, Isaac Boelman, Elias Boelman, and Henry Weitzel. Sister-in-law, Frances Mennenga, and brother-in-law, Roger (Lucy) Boelman, and numerous friends and family. She was preceded in death by both sets of parents, her husband, her brothers, Arnold, Louie, Henry, Alfred, George, Edwin, and Carl, her sisters, Lena Mennenga, Viola Loats, Magdelene Braner, Grace Pals, and Rena Pals.

The family suggests those wishing to express their sympathies through a memorial in Janet's name may wish to consider the Immanuel Reformed Church of Belmond, Hospice of Wright County, or the Belmond Historical Society. Andrews Funeral Home, Belmond, IA.
