Prominent Hardy Man Dies in Des Moines

Alfred B. Ersland, forty, prominent Hardy farmer and president of the Hardy Shipping Association, passed away at the Iowa Lutheran hospital in Des Moines Tuesday morning of last week following an operation for appendicitis and tumor. Mr. Ersland who lived on a farm five miles southwest of Hardy had been in the hospital a week previous to his death. Mr. Ersland held the esteem of the entire community. He was a director of the Peoples Savings Bank, trustee of the Trinity Lutheran church, and secretary of the Farmer's Elevator company. He was active in all community affairs and was one of Hardy's most prosperous farmers.

Funeral services were held at the Trinity Lutheran church in Thor, Thursday afternoon at 2:30 following short services at the farm home. Rev. T. B. Thorson, pastor of the church conducted final rites and burial was made in Trinity Lutheran cemetery. Charles Holland, E. J. Hanson, Omen Nervig, Manly Mickelson, Peter Helvlck, and John Cedar were pallbearers.

A lifetime resident of Humboldt County, Mr. Ersland was born July 6, 1890, on the farm which he operated five miles southwest of Hardy, his parents being Mr. and Mrs. Ben B. Ersland. Eight years of his childhood were spent in Thor after the death of his father, and then he moved back to the farm where he continued to live until his death. He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Mary Ersland; a brother Joe; a sister Anna, and a foster sister, Mrs. Harry Pederson.
