November 12, 1926 --- September 13, 1986

CLEAR LAKE – Betty D. Lekwa, 59, of 2305 S. Third St., Clear Lake, died Saturday (Sept. 13, 1986) at a Mason City hospital. Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, at the Clear Lake United Methodist Church with Rev. James Louk officiating. Burial will be in the Clear Lake Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Monday, at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. 4th St., Clear Lake. The family requests that memorials be given to the Betty D. Lekwa Memorial Fund.

Mrs. Lekwa was born on Nov. 12, 1926 in Popejoy to Lloyd and Gladys (Alverson) Hurd. She graduated from Popejoy High School in 1944. On June 24, 1945, she married Glen Lekwa in Popejoy. The couple lived in Popejoy until 1956 when they moved to Clear Lake. She was employed for 13 years as a clerk in a local department store until retiring in 1985 because of ill health.

She was a member of the Clear Lake United Methodist Church and a church circle. Survivors include: her husband, Glen Lekwa, Clear Lake; two daughters, Mrs. Kay Carollo, Marshalltown; Mrs. Roy (Jean) Groven, Mason City; two sons, Rande Lekwa, Mason City; Monte Lekwa, Spencer; one sister, Mrs. Floyd (Joyce) Hackbarth, Carlise; her father, Lloyd Hurd, Popejoy; and 8 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her mother. The Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, is in charge of arrangements.
