Arlene Jean Thompson, age 83, of Storm Lake, Iowa, passed away Friday, January 2, 2015, in hospice care. A private graveside service will take place. Arlene was born January 22, 1931, on a farm near Popejoy, Iowa. She was the daughter of Carroll and Edna (Meyer) Hackbarth. She was a graduate of Iowa Falls High School, class of 1950. Arlene married Orville (Buzz) Thompson in August of 1950. As a younger person, Arlene worked as a telephone operator in Nebraska and South Dakota during their many relocations, and later as a clerk at Anthony's and Sernett's in Storm Lake. Arlene was devoted to her husband, and enjoyed traveling. They became anglophiles, taking family members and friends to England on many trips. If you knew Arlene after Orville passed away in 1997, you will also remember "Peaches".

Arlene is survived by her son, Thad Thompson D.D.S. (Marilyn Wiggins D.D.S.), daughter Jane Hanstein, grandson Grant (Jennie) Hanstein, great granddaughter Amelia Hanstein and granddaughter Elizabeth Hanstein, and her second mother (her father's second wife) Edna Hackbarth. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her twin sister, Darlene Pommrehn. By Arlene's request, there was a private family graveside service at Alden Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to any charity of choice.
