Betty Sue (Capsel) Willard, the daughter of Earl and Ethel (Loux) Capsel, was born August 6, 1930, in Wright County, on the family farm near Clarion. She was raised and educated in Eagle Grove, graduating in the "Class of 1948". On December 19, 1948, Betty was united in marriage with Duane "Pokey" Willard in Eagle Grove. After their marriage, they lived in Eagle Grove for 7 years before moving to Thor.

Betty was an active member of Ullensvang Lutheran Church in Thor – where she took great pride in cleaning for over 40 years and serving on many other committees. She and the kids would also help Duane take care of the four cemeteries. Betty enjoyed collecting dolls, sewing for many world relief projects and being a wonderful grandmother.

Betty passed away Saturday, January 17, 2015, at Windsor Manor Assisted Living in Webster City, at the age of 84 years. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Brian Duane Willard; husband, Duane and siblings: Darlene Allen, Jack Capsel, Shirley Jans, Aletha White and Delores Griffith. Survivors include her daughter, Lisa Sandkamp and husband Drew of Fort Dodge; son, Brad Willard of Thor; grandchildren: April Shawhan (Don) of Thor, Jessica Sandkamp of Mesa, AZ and Jared Willard (Paige Griffin) of Eagle Grove; great-grandchildren: Jareth Long, Fenix Shawhan, Draven Shawhan and Mia Willard and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 22, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. from the Ullensvang Lutheran Church in Thor with Pastor Darryl Landsverk and hospice Chaplin Karin Lang officiating. Visitation is Wednesday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Foust Funeral Home in Eagle Grove. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Eagle Grove. Memorials will be left to the discretion of the family.
