Constance J. Benson, the daughter of Bennie and Lillian (Johnson) Benson, was born July 2, 1936, in rural Hancock County, Iowa on a farm near Kanawha. She attended Belmond Schools and graduated from Belmond High School with the Class of 1953. Connie was united in marriage to Roger Christie Johnson July 26, 1953 at the Old United Methodist Church in Belmond. Their union was blessed with six children, Christie, Gregary, Jamie, Bradley, Wade, and Eric.

In addition to raising and nurturing to the needs of her family, Connie was employed for a time at Montgomery Wards in Belmond. In 1969, she commenced her career of more than 29 years as a secretary in the Belmond Community Schools, first at the Ramsey Elementary School for a short time and then was employed at the Belmond High School until retiring in 1998. Connie truly enjoyed the simple things in life, foremost of which was providing a loving home for Roger and her children. Times spent with her children and the grandchildren were always precious to her. She loved to support her family in all their endeavors. Connie was an excellent cook and baker. Her grandchildren fondly remember the delicious home made chocolate chip cookies.

Connie and Roger often enjoyed entertaining both family and friends. They were gracious hosts whether it was a time spent around the coffee table, an afternoon of Bridge playing with many different groups of friends over the years, or providing an evening of rest at "The Johnson" family hotel. Her children reflect on her knack for often changing the interior décor of her home and her sharp memory, as she could remember dates of birthdays, anniversaries, and other special occasions in the lives of her family and friends. Both she and Roger were avid readers who seemed to always keep up with the times and happenings of the day both locally, regionally, and world wide. Where Roger's choice of reading pleasure was in scientific areas, Connie looked forward to delving into books in the areas of non-fiction, fiction, and history. In earlier years of her life she had been active in the church choir and had sang solos for various occasions. Connie enjoyed collecting, a bit of antiquing, and some relaxation time watching Iowa Public Television.

Her memory will live on in the lives of her children; daughter, Christie (Matthew) Clark, Wausau, WI, and their children, Andrew, (Carmen Lieberman) Nicholas, Harrison, and Arthur; son, Jamie Johnson, Forest City, IA, and his daughters, Erin (Fiancee' Jeremy Mud), and Ashley (Sean Edens) and their son, Caimin Edens; son, Bradley (Sharon) Johnson, Mountain Home, Arkansas, and their children, Anthony Johnson, Rebecca (Chris) Adams and her daughter, Adrienne Hanson; and a son, Wade Johnson and his fiancée, Dana Joachim-Motoc, Minneapolis, MN,; three sisters, Mary Jo (Sid) Swenson, Belmond, IA, Marlene Merriam, Belmond, IA, and Alyce (Glenn) Nordell, Sugar Grove, IL; also numerous other extended family and friends. Connie was preceded in death by her parents, husband Roger, sons, Eric and Greg and brother David Benson.

Connie's family would like to gratefully express their sincerest and heartfelt thanks for the love and care provided to Connie by the Rehabilitation Center of Belmond Staff, Mercy Medical Center of North Iowa Staff, the Iowa Specialty Hospital-Belmond Staff, and to those who cared so deeply from the crew at Hospice of Wright County. Andrews Funeral Home, Belmond, IA.
