January 1, 1881 ---- May 3, 1971

Mrs. Elizabeth Puffett, 90, a resident of the Rotary Ann Home died there early Monday morning. Her health had been failing for the past weeks. Funeral services were held Wednesday at 2 o'clock in the First Baptist Church in charge of the Pastor Rev. Lon Schneider. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Puffett is survived by three sons; Wayne of Brea, Calif.; Willard of Spokane, Wash, and Earl of Eagle Grove and one daughter, Mrs. Yvonne Nowning of Maxwell. She is also survived by one sister, Miss Blanche Evans of Albuquerque, New Mex., 13 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Mrs. Puffett, the former Elizabeth Evans, was born on a farm near Woolstock. After graduating from Highland Park College she taught school for several years then went to North Dakota. She was employed in a bank, and while there homesteaded and proved up on a claim. She drove a horse and buggy from her homestead to her work in the bank daily. When she returned to this area she was employed in the Wright County Court house and was the first woman-deputy treasurer to be so employed. In 1910 she married Clarence Puffett and they lived in Ames for many years. Mrs. Puffett was a cook in the Memorial Union at Iowa State College for many years, and retired in 1965. She had been a resident of Rotary Ann for about six years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one daughter, Vera, two brothers and three sisters.
