June 6, 1938 --- January 9, 2015

James LeRoy Nicholl, Sr., the son of James Andrew and Myrtle (Staley) Nicholl, was born June 6, 1938, in Jewell, Iowa. He was raised and educated in Webster City. James was the youngest carrier - age 8 - to deliver the Des Moines Register. James served in the United States Navy working on jet planes from June 13, 1955 to May 14, 1957. James married Norma J. Smith and the couple had six children. He married Vickie Huey on February 27, 1976. After living in Audubon from 1970 to 1978, they moved to Eagle Grove. James worked as a mechanic in several cities in California and Iowa and is last working years was at Heller's Carbon West in Webster City, retiring in 2006.

James was an avid football fan - college and pro "Go Green Bay", enjoyed car races, deer hunting, riding motorcycles, bowling, playing pool, camping and just working on cars and other things in his garage and his home and also spending time with his family and friends.

James passed away on Friday, January 9, 2015, at VA Central Health Care in Des Moines at the age of 76 years. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, David and Lester and sister, Emma. Survivors include his wife, Vickie of Eagle Grove; six children: Bessie Campbell (Jack), Anita Nicholl, Jim Nicholl, Jr, (Joyce), Roylene Bald (Rick), Jean Peterson (Rick) and Lisa Miller (Craig); 18 grandchildren: Christopher, Aaron, Anthony, David, Gregory, Travis, Keely, Jenna, Luka, Bayley, Shaun, Mandy, Jeremy, Michael, Hannah, Ricky, Jessica and Christopher and ten great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 13, 2015, at the United Methodist Church in Eagle Grove with Pastor Heather Dorr officiating. Visitation will be Monday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Foust Funeral Home in Eagle Grove. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, Webster City. The family requests any memorials may be made to Folds of Honor Foundation.
