January 1, 1928 --- December 22, 2014

Laverta (Verty) Rengstorf Norem, age 86, died peacefully at home December 22, 2014, in the presence of family and her pastor. She was born in Marysville, KS on January 1, 1928, to George and Laura (True) Rengstorf, the first baby born in Marshall County that year. Elementary education was in the Marysville Mt. Calvary Lutheran School. The family moved to Eagle Grove, IA, in 1940. At graduation from high school, Verty took a job as secretary to the State Labor Commissioner in Des Moines, IA. She married Howard E. Norem of Eagle Grove on 8/29/1948. They were blessed with one daughter, Deborah. Howard's job took them to Southern California in 1965. Verty worked as a medical secretary in a urology office in Santa Ana, CA for 20 years. In 1989, she retired and moved to Reno, NV.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brothers Ivan (Mona) Rengstorf and Mardell (Avonell) Rengstorf. She is survived by her daughter, Deborah Salaber and son-in-law Stephen Salaber of Reno, brother Reverend Elton (Helen) Rengstorf of Lewiston, NY, and many nieces & nephews. Verty was involved in several volunteer jobs in Reno as well as part time work with Nevada AIDS Foundation and St Mary's Medical Center. She was an active member of Faith Lutheran Church, the Silver State Super Seniors exercise and drill marching group, and the Daughters of Norway. She loved bowling, traveling and family get-togethers. Verty was a woman of strong faith, a great friend, confidant and listener who will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and church family.

A celebration of life will be held January 10 at 11 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church, 2075 West 7th St, Reno, NV 89503. In lieu of flowers, Verty requested memorials be given to Faith Lutheran Church. Thank you to everyone at Saint Mary's Hospice who provided excellent care, support and guidance. Verty's final message to friends and family: Thank you all for making my life so rich with your love.
