November 18, 1900 --- May 13, 1986

John James Henneberry, the son of James W. and Mary H. Bowes Henneberry, was born at Eagle Grove, Iowa on November 18, 1900. He grew up in Eagle Grove and attended the Sacred Heart schools and graduated from the Sacred Heart High School, in the Class of 1918. He also graduated from Loras College in Dubuque and later received his Degree in Law from Drake University in Des Moines. On June 1, 1926 he began his law career in Eagle Grove and at that time he took over his father's law office. He has been a lawyer in Eagle Grove for nearly 60 years and had served as the Wright County Attorney for a few years and was a long-time member of the Wright County Bar Association and the Iowa Bar Association. As a young man, he served as a page in the Iowa Legislature. On December 26, 1959 he was united in marriage with Arliss Cain Cumming at Eagle Grove. Mr. Henneberry was a member of Sacred Heart Church and the Knights of Columbus in Eagle Grove and was active in the Salvation Army for several years.

He died on Tuesday evening May 13, 1986 at the Trinity Regional Hospital in Fort Dodge, where he had been a patient for the past two weeks. He attained the age of 85 years, 5 months and 25 days. He is survived by his wife, Arliss Henneberry of Eagle Grove, a sister, Mary M. Henneberry of Phoenix. Ariz., a niece, Nancy Henneberry Weaver of Bayville, NY, two step-sons, Dr. Charles M. Cummings of Ames, and Douglas A. Cummings of Menomonie, Wise, five step grandchildren and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, W. C. Henneberry.

Funeral services for John J Henneberry, age 85 of Eagle Grove, were held on Friday May 16, 1986 at 10:30 a.m at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eagle Grove. Officiants for the Mass were, Rev. Fr. John Herzog, church pastor and Rev. Fr. J. Robert McDonald of Newhall, a friend of the family. Burial was in the Henneberry family lot in the Calvary Cemetery, Eagle Grove. Visitation was held at the Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home on Thursday afternoon and at the Sacred Heart Parish Center on Thursday evening and the parish Rosary Service was held at 8 p.m at the parish center.
