March 12, 1888 --- January 21, 1981

Talton Wesley Brown, the son of Thomas and Susan Guyman Brown, was born on March 12, 1888, in Marion County, Ill. He died at the Rotary Ann Home in Eagle Grove on Wednesday evening, Jan. 21, 1981. He attained the age of 92 years, 10 months and nine days. He grew up in Marion County and attended school at Poverty Corners, Ill. In 1911, he was united in marriage with Inez Ford at St. Louis, Mo. To this union were born five children. The family lived in Tacoma, Wash, for three years. The family moved to Eagle Grove where Mr. Brown was employed by the Chicago Northwestern Railroad. For several years he was employed at Martins Grocery. In 1934, he opened Brown's Grocery on North Kirkwood in Eagle Grove. Later, his sons joined him in the grocery business. Mrs. Brown died in March, 1974. He continued to be active until July, 1980, when he became a resident of the Rotary Ann Home. Brownie, as he was known to most people, was always cheerful and a very colorful person. He was known by many for his writing about Poverty Corners. He was baptized in the Baptist Church in Eagle Grove and served as Sunday School Supt., a teacher of the boys class and was a church deacon.

He is survived by two sons, Robert (Pat) and Wesley, both of Eagle Grove; two daughters, Mrs. Emerson (Phyllis) Metzcar of Shingle Springs, Calif, and Mrs. Victor (Dorothy) Camille of Des Moines; ten grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Zetta Ford of Centralia, Ill. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a daughter, Viola Larson, and several brothers and sisters.

Funeral services for T. W. Brown, were held on Saturday, Jan. 24 at 2 p.m. at the Eagle Grove Baptist Church. Rev. Charles Dutton, church pastor officiated and the burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove. Visitation was held on Friday at the Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home.
