Deloras Eileen (Field) Mason, the daughter of Ralph and Lucille (Mitten) Field, was born September 13, 1929, in Goldfield, Iowa. She passed away Friday, December 19, 2014, at Avera Holy Family Hospital in Estherville, Iowa, at the age of 85.
She received her education in the Goldfield schools, graduating from Goldfield High School. After graduation from high school, Dee attended college and graduated with her teaching certificate. Dee taught 2nd grade in Pocahontas from 1949 - 1951. On July 3, 1952, Dee was united in marriage to Raymond H. Mason in Fairmont, Minnesota. The couple made their home in Estherville where they began raising their family. She taught 2nd grade in Estherville for three years. Later along with being a mom, Dee was a study hall teacher and an aide at Lincoln Consolidated School in Gruver. Then she began teaching 5th grade in Dolliver and then later in Gruver. Dee truly loved teaching and all of her students that she taught over the years. Following her retirement she substituted any opportunity that she had. In her leisure time she enjoyed fishing with her family, card playing with friends and most importantly spending time with children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Ray died July 20, 1997. Dee was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Estherville.
Left to cherish Dee's memory are her children, LuAnn Swanson and her husband, Kim of Dolliver, Iowa; Steve Mason of Estherville; her grandchildren, Jana Vazquez and her husband, Jose of Montgomery, Alabama, Lindsay Steffen and her husband, Aaron of Emmetsburg, Iowa and Steve Mason of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; her great-grandchildren, Liana and Elasia Vazquez of Montgomery and sisters-in-law, Ardith Field of Clarion, Iowa, Helen Shull of Spirit Lake, Iowa and Lucille Phillips of Fremont, California. Dee was preceded in death by her husband; son, Richard Mason; parents and brother, Duane Field.
