Bernadette Teresa Underberg Giese, the daughter of Nicholas and Catherine Daniels Underberg, was born at Omaha, Neb. on Feb. 3, 1928. As a child she moved with her parents to a farm near Carroll, Iowa. She grew up in the Catholic faith and attended school at Dedham and Mt. Carmel and later graduated from the Carroll High School. She became a practical nurse and worked helping others for several years. On March 5, 1950, she was united in marriage with William H. Giese at Omaha. The couple lived in Algona and in 1955 they moved to Eagle Grove and started the Giese Construction Company and through the years they have worked together in owning and managing the Giese Construction Company in Eagle Grove and Fort Dodge and Giese Ready Mix Plants in several surrounding cities. Bernadette was serving as a vice president and secretary of the companies at the time of her death. During her business years, she was active in related associations.

She died on Tuesday evening at the family home in Eagle Grove of an illness of cancer from which she had suffered for the past several years. She attained the age of 58 years, three months and 24 days. She is survived by her husband, William H. Giese of Eagle Grove; a brother, Nicholas Underberg of Eagle Grove; six sisters, Martha Boshke, Viola Livingston Hughes and Lavina Casey, all of Milford, Iowa; Loretta Golwitzer of Dedham, Iowa; Hilda Stangl of Carroll and Margaret Irlbeck of Manning and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and two brothers.

Funeral services for Mrs. William H. (Bernadette) Giese, 58, of Eagle Grove, were held Saturday, May 31, 1986 at 11 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eagle Grove. The Rev. Fr. John Herzog, church pastor, officiated and burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove. Scripture services were held on Friday evening.
