William H. Giese was born August 27, 1930, in Harrison County, Iowa, to William and Anna Razee Giese. He attended rural schools. Following his education, he worked in construction. In 1947, he entered the U. S. Army serving in the Construction Engineers Division in Germany. Following his discharge, he became employed at M T and John McGuire Construction Company in Algona, Iowa. In 1948, he married Bernadette Underberg. He moved to Eagle Grove, Iowa, in 1955 and established Giese Construction Company later expanding his business to include road building and ready mix. In the late 1970's, he started Eagle Grove Crane Service and Eagle Grove Sludge Disposal, moving his growing crane service to Ames, Iowa, in 1986. He married Barbara Paulson in 1986 and they established their home in Eagle Grove. By 1991, his ready mix operation had grown to over 20 locations and a substantial aggregate division was added in 1993. In 1997 he sold his construction, ready, mix and aggregate divisions. He acquired Stephen's Trenching of Goldfield, Iowa, in 1998. For 36 years, he was a member of the Elks Club and a longtime member of the American Legion. At the time of his death, he was involved in farming and overseeing the operations of his crane and trenching businesses.

William H. Giese, Orleans (Spirit Lake), Iowa, formerly of Eagle Grove and Fort Dodge, Iowa, died Thursday, May 11, 2000, at the McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D., at the age of 69. He is survived by his wife, Barbara; stepson, Troy Johnston and wife, Darla, Broomfield, Colo.; three grandchildren; one brother, Joe Giese, California; one sister, Karol Anderson, Audubon; father and mother-in-law Jack and Dolly Paulson, Eagle Grove; three brothers-in-law, Ray Nielsen, Waterloo, Neb., Nick Underberg and wife, Irene, Eagle Grove, and Arliss Nielsen and wife, Jacque, Woolstock; nephew, Kenneth Giese, Toledo, Ohio; and several other nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Bernadette, and one sister, Darlene Nielsen.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 16, 2000, at 3 p.m. in the Chapel of the Laufersweiler; Sievers Funeral. Home, Fort Dodge. Private family burial will be held at a later date. Laufersweiler - Sievers Funeral Home in Fort Dodge was in charge of arrangements.
