Iver Iverson Called To Rest
Pioneer Franklin County Man Passes Away at Home Near Popejoy

Funeral services for Iver Iverson, long time resident of Franklin County, near Popejoy, were held last Thursday afternoon. Services were held at the Oakland township Lutheran Church, and burial was made in the cemetery near the church, beside the body of his wife who passed away on January 2nd.

Came Here With Oxen Team
Mr. Iverson was born at the old family estate, "Falla," in Hurdal Parish, Norway, on August 22, 1842 and had reached the ripe old age of eighty-five years at the time of his death. He came to the United States in the spring of 1868 and soon after was united in marriage to Miss Anne Erickson, at Blanchardville, Wisconsin. With his brother, Erick Iverson, and a few friends, the party came to Iowa sometime during the month of June, 1868 and located in Oakland township in Franklin County. They made the trip in prairie schooners and with oxen teams. Mr. Iverson has resided continuously since then on the tract which he began farming at that time in Oakland township, and it is known far and wide thruout the southwest part of the county as the Iverson "home farm." Mr. Iverson at the time of his death was the owner of over 500 acres of choice Franklin county land, all located near and adjoining the old home farm. Mr. and Mrs. Iverson were among those old settlers who endured the hardships and privations of early pioneer life in this county, and they are entitled to a full measure of credit for the development of that section of the county where they were so long among honored citizens. During his younger days Mr. Iverson always took a deep interest in public affairs and was a strong and active supporter for all the good things of life. He was one of the charter members of the Otis Lutheran church, of which he and his family were members.

He was the last of his family, as all of his brothers and sisters have preceded him in death. He is survived by five sons and two daughters as follow: John A. Iverson, Eagle Grove, Iowa; Martin J. Iverson, Dolliver, Iowa; Elmen M. Iverson and Oliver B. Iverson, who reside on the home farm northwest of Popejoy; Mrs. Sam Guddall, Thor, Iowa; Alfred F. Iverson, Popejoy, Iowa, and Mrs. C. L. Dalseide, Hudson, South Dakota. All of the children were present at the funeral. He also leaves nineteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
