Jack Elmo Yoder, age 87, of Chippewa Falls, formerly of Hudson, died Friday, Dec. 5, at the Wisconsin Veteran's Home in Chippewa Falls. Jack was born on Oct. 2, 1927, in Renwick, Iowa, to parents George and Mary (Kessel) Yoder. He was raised in Delvan, Minnesota, where he attended school. Jack joined in the U.S. Navy, and served with the SeaBees in the South Pacific during World War II. Jack married Bernice Turensky in 1955. The couple was blessed with three children, Kaylene, Kevin, and Shane. This union would later be dissolved.
Jack worked many years as an over-the-road truck driver for companies such as Glendenning Trucking and DeBoer. He retired in 1987. Jack loved the outdoors and traveling across the United States. He enjoyed reading Louis L'Amour westerns and playing a game of cribbage. Jack will be best known for his gift of gab, as he loved visiting for hours over a cup of coffee.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Gerald who died in World War II as he was shot down over the North Sea. He is survived by his children, Kaylene (Jeffrey) Nerby-Calkins of Altoona, Kevin (Barbara) Yoder of Hudson, and Shane (Kimberly) Yoder of Eau Claire; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sisters, Helen Peterson of Colorado, Lucille Offdahl of Florida, and Shirley Wannarka of Minnesota; nieces, nephews, and friends.
Funeral services for Jack will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 11, at the O'Connell Family Funeral Home, 520 S. Eleventh St., Hudson, with Pastor Tim Booth officiating. Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 10, at the funeral home and one hour prior to service Thursday. Burial at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Jack's grandsons will serve as casketbearers. Memorials are preferred. Services entrusted to the O'Connell Family Funeral Home of Hudson, Wisconsin.
