William S. NERVIG

December 29, 1916 --- June 11, 1999

W. S. "Stub" Nervig was born on December 29, 1916, at Rural Humboldt County, Iowa, to A. T. Nervig and Sadie Nelson Nervig. He was baptized at Trinity Lutheran Church, Hardy, Iowa, and later confirmed at East Side Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove, Iowa. He began farming northeast of Eagle Grove and then went to work on the construction of the Al-Can Highway in Alaska in 1943. On February 22, 1945, he was united in marriage to Mildred Mickelson at Fort Dodge, Iowa. He then began driving a Mobil Oil tank wagon. He also drove a bus for the Eagle Grove School District, and for Knutson Ready Mix. He served for 43 years with the Eagle Grove Volunteer Fire Department. In 1994, he moved to the Meadows at Clarion, Iowa. He was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove.

W. S. "Stub" Nervig, of Clarion, formerly Eagle Grove, died Friday, June 11, 1999, at the Community Memorial Hospital in Clarion at the age of 82. He is survived by three sons, Robert Nervig and wife, Kathy, Raleigh, N. C., Richard Nervig, and wife, Connie, Little Rock, Ark., and John Nervig, Webster City, Iowa; four grandchildren; and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mildred, on September 29,1989; one grandson, Matthew; one sister, Edythe; and three brothers, Thomas, Donald, and Irvin.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday (today), June 16,1999, at 1:30 p.m, at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove with Reverend Paul Stone officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Eagle Grove. Willim Funeral Home in Eagle Grove is in charge of arrangements.
