Paul M. Matacio, 84, of Berrien Springs, died Friday morning, October 13, 2006, at Lakeland Specialty Hospital in Berrien Center. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, October 16, at the Allred Funeral Home in Berrien Springs. Pastor Arnold Swanson of Pioneer Memorial Church will officiate. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 3 - 5 p.m. Sunday, October 15, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions in Paul's name may be made to Andrews University Scholarship Fund for Worthy Students, Your Story Hour, or the charity of the donor's choice.

Paul was born August 7, 1922, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the son of Vincenza and Sara (Merlo) Matacio. On September 15, 1946, in Eagle Grove, Iowa, he married Maxine S. Hunt. He earned his Master's Degree in Religion from Andrews University. Paul was a minister for the Seventh-day Adventist Church, pastoring in the conferences of Wisconsin, Illinois, Kansas, and Michigan, and he served as Associate Pastor at Pioneer Memorial Church from 1982 - 1986, when he retired. In retirement, the Matacios spent winters in Avon Park, Florida, for 15 years, where Paul had a small citrus grove. He enjoyed gardening, and he liked to plan meals and cook.

He is survived by his wife, Maxine, daughter, Lauren Matacio of Berrien Springs, two sons, Douglas Charles (Verla) Matacio of Alberta, Canada, and Timothy Paul Matacio of St. Charles, Illinois; two granddaugthers--Jamie and Darcy, two grandsons--Cory and Trevor, and sister, Mary Beyer of Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
