May 11, 1928 ---- November 23, 2014

Myrna Helen Hunt died peacefully of natural causes at the Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Lakefield, on Nov. 23. A memorial service for Myrna will take place in June. The Osterberg Funeral Home of Lakefield is handling the arrangements.

Myrna was born on May 11, 1928, in Eagle Grove, Iowa, to Hubert and Margaret Banks. She attended Eagle Grove High School, graduating in 1946. After high school, Myrna continued her education at Eagle Grove Junior College. On Feb. 14, 1947, Myrna married Jerry Hunt. The couple lived in Eagle Grove, Iowa and Albert Lea, with their four children, before moving to Lakefield in 1967. After their children were grown, Myrna and Jerry ran Hunt’s Locker in Lakefield, while operating their feedlot and farm. Myrna later worked as a receptionist for Dr. Clayton Lewis in Jackson and for the Plum Creek Library System in both the Jackson and Lakefield libraries for many years.

Myrna was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church in Lakefield where she taught Sunday school. She was an active member of the Jackson County DFL, attending many state conventions. Myrna was an avid bridge player, a voracious reader, and loved crossword puzzles. She was always ready to laugh, and never ceased to appreciate the small wonders around her. She loved cooking big meals for her family. Her grandchildren were especially fond of her homemade rolls and chocolate chip cookies.

Myrna is survived by her sons Scott Hunt and Ken Hunt of Lakefield; her daughter Marsha Hunt Friesen of San Francisco, Calif.; grandchildren, Corey, Tracy, Charity, Katie, Faith; and great-grandchildren, Samantha, Leo, Charis, Tristan, Eli, and Carmen. Myrna is preceded in death by her parents; her four siblings; her husband, Jerry and her son, Mark (Buzzy). Myrna Hunt is lovingly remembered by her family. Anyone wishing to give a memorial may make a donation to the Lakefield Public Library in Myrna’s name.
