April 5, 1907 --- October 24, 1993

The Rite of Christian Burial for Frank Welter, 86, was celebrated by the Rev. Gerald Hartz at 10:30 a.m. Friday. Oct. 29, in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church at Livermore. Interment was in Mt. Calvary Cemetery with the Otto-Field Post No. 415 of the American Legion conducting military graveside rites. The Wilson Funeral Home of Livermore was in charge of funeral arrangements. Casket bearers were Frank Welter, Chuck Welter. Jesse Welter, Dave Welter, Duane Thilges, and Ronald Thilges.

Francis, son of Celestin and Mary Ries Welter, was born April 5, 1907 in rural Humboldt County, IA, near Bradgate. After attending country schools, he worked on the home farm. Frank was a pitcher for baseball teams in the area. He was drafted into the Army March 23, 1942 and discharged Oct. 2, 1945.

Frank was married to Laura Helen Schaller at Aberdeen, MD Oct. 10, 1942. They farmed near Somers, IA before moving to a farm northwest of Hardy in 1948, then to an acreage near Livermore in 1977. Due to ill health Mr. and Mrs. Welter became residents of the North Care Center at Humboldt in 1992. He died there Sunday Oct 24 (1993). He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church at Livermore and enjoyed outdoor activities, especially fishing and hunting.

Surviving are his wife, Laura: a son, Delmer of Hardy and daughter, Darlene, Mrs. Jack Ekwall, Bedford, IN. There are two grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Also surviving are three brothers and a sister, Nickolas, Iowa City; Ed, Ionia; Henry, Bode; and Nellie, Mrs. Tony Halligan, Fort Dodge. Three brothers and two sisters, Emil, Charlie, Pete, Katherine Welter and Mary Lovig, preceded him in death.
