Mr McClure was born in Delaware County, Iowa Oct 14, 1861 where he lived with his parents for 5 years. They then moved to Buchanan county where he resided until he gained his majority. Later he moved to Renwick to learn railroading, which he followed for about sixteen years. During that time he held positions as station agent at Renwlck, Rutland and Dakota City. He was married eleven years ago to Mrs. Ada Britan. Two children were born to bless the union — one now seven and the other two years of age. The deceased leaves countless friends and many relatives to mourn his loss. The funeral was held at Rutland, Iowa, Thursday, and conducted by Rev. Robbins. The Woodman lodge, of which Mr. McClure was a member, attended in a body. A large concourse of mourners followed the remains to its resting place.

Fred S. McClure was a Christian and an earnest gentleman. The writer had known him but a short time, but in that time had learned to love and respect his manly, open spirit. He was indeed a man among men.
