June 16, 1835 --- February 8, 1900

Emma A. (Morrill) Merritt was born in Danville, Vermont on the 16th of June, 1834. She came to Green Mountain, Marshall Co., in the spring of 1862, and returned to Vermont in 1865, where she remained until her marriage to Moses K. Merritt, Jan. 31st, 1866. Mr. and Mrs. Merritt moved to Grinnell immediately after their marriage, and have been residents near this city ever since, with the exception of two years spent in Kansas. Mrs. Merritt was a member of the Congregational church in Green Mountain, and a regular attendant of that society in this city. She was a lady of high ideals, and lived a pure, conscientious, christian life, loved by her friends and especially by the members of her family. After a brief illness, she was called to where suffering is no more, on Thursday evening, Feb. 8th, all the members of the family being at her bedside. She leaves a husband and three children, Mrs. E. E. Scott of Eagle Grove, Miss Hattie Merritt, now teaching in Le Mars, and Guy Merritt, to mourn the loss of a loving wife and mother. Those present from out of town were Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Belmore, of Green Mountain, Albert Bisbee of Beaman, M.H. Haviland of Marshalltown, Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Scott of Eagle Grove, Mrs. J. L. McClanahan of Kirksville, Mo. and Miss Hattie Merritt of Le Mars.
