January 26, 1825 --- February 20, 1915

Our community has been called upon to part with one of its oldest, best known and best loved citizens in the death of Isaac Griffith. He was born in Zanesville, Ohio in 1825 and died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Lue Pletcher, one mile and a half east of Eagle Grove, Feb 20, 1915. He was married to Alvina Myers on Christmas day, at Tipton, Iowa, 1855. Ten children were born to them, all of whom are living except two sons, Edward, who died in 1908 in Des Moines, Iowa, and Mansfield Griffith who died in infancy. The surviving children are William of Goldfield, Iowa; James F. of Kaukauna, Wis.; Mrs. Lue Pletcher of Eagle Grove; George of Waterloo, Iowa; Howard C. of Swaledale, Iowa; Mrs. Lonzo Fisher of Eagle Grove, Iowa; Ira F. of Northome, Minn; and Thomas of Waterloo, Iowa. Mr and Mrs Griffith joined the Dunkard church at Garrison, Iowa, in their younger life. When they loved to Wright County they united with the First Baptist Church of Eagle Grove of which they were faithful and valuable members. Since the death of his wife in 1903 Mr. Griffith had made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Lorenzo Fisher. He was always a loving and faithful husband and father, a kind friend and neighbor, and a loyal honored citizen. He was a man of unusual strength which was always good until the 17th of October. He bore his long illness, which was of unusual suffering, with wonderful patience, loving spirit and great Christian fortitude. He was often found in silent prayer. All that medical skills and loving care on the part of the families, including the grandchildren and Carl, who makes his home at Mr. Pletcher's, was done to alleviate the suffering and comfort and cheer the dear one, till the end came and he sweetly fell asleep in Jesus. Funeral services were held at the Baptist Church, conducted by his pastor, Rev. G. L. Hart, Feb 22, at one p.m. with burial in Rose Hill Cemetery.
