July 30, 1893 --- May 26, 1963

Peter G. Helvick, son of Christian Helvick and Margaret Knutson Helvick was born July 30, 1893 at Thor. He was baptized and confirmed at the Thor Lutheran church. At the age of 14, after his parents' death, he spent his youth in South Dakota living and working with his older brothers and sisters. He served with the U.S. Army in France in World War I. After his discharge he returned to Humboldt county to live and work. He was married to Josephine Michaelson June 3,1925 at Fort Dodge. He farmed near Hardy and later north of Humboldt. He passed away Sunday morning, May 26 at his home after several weeks illness at the age of 69 years.

He is survived by his wife and six children, Clayton of Lakota, Malcolm of Bradgate, James of Garner, (Joyce) Mrs. Duane Jordanger, Kanawha; (Gloria) Mrs. Marlo Westby, Alexander and (Diane) Mrs. Wayne Lehman, Badger, 13 grandchildren, four brothers and three sisters, Albert of Humboldt, Robert, Racine, Wisconsin., Frank, Forest City, Joe, Huron, S.D., Mrs. Clara Tilley, Spencer. S.D.; Mrs. Tena Haight, Omaha, Neb., and Mrs. Clifford Watts, Rolfe. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, one sister, and two infant grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted at Our Saviour's Lutheran church May 28 with the Rev. L. C. Jenson officiating. Last rites, including military honors by the American Legion, were held at the Trinity Church Cemetery near Hardy.
