William Joseph Nugent was born on March 24, 1927, at Sioux City, Iowa, to William M. and Katharine Ryan Nugent. Bill received his education at the Trinity High School in Sioux City. He served his country during World War II in the U.S. Navy, being stationed in Guam preparing for the invasion of Japan. After his Honorable Discharge from the service, Bill graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree from Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa. He was married to Kay Weisser on March 31, 1951 at Sioux City.

Bill started in business in the finance field in Sioux City. He then went into the banking business in Des Moines, Newton, Algona and Belmond, where he became President of the North Iowa State Bank. Bill moved back to Algona, Iowa and went into the Real Estate Business until his retirement in 1997. Bill was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Whittemore, Iowa. He also belonged to the Knights of Columbus, Rotary Club and the Monahan American Legion Post in Sioux City. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, motorcycling and traveling.

Bill died on Wednesday, May 26, 2010, at his residence in Whittemore. He was 83. Surviving are his wife, Kay of Algona, Iowa and his children, Patrick Nugent and wife, Marilyn, West Des Moines, Iowa, William Nugent, Washington, D.C., Margaret Nugent, Mason City, Iowa and Thomas Nugent and wife, Janet, Dallas Center, Iowa. Also surviving are 3 grandchildren, Gayle Derfus, San Diego, California, Jeanne Gengerke, Eden Prairie, Minnesota, Dan DeVore, Des Moines, Iowa, one great grandson, Troy Derfus and two sisters, Mary Roberts, Columbus, Ohio and Kathleen Lowndes, Omaha, Nebraska. He was preceded in death by his parents and two aunts, Mary Riley and Margaret Ryan.
