April 5, 1893 --- October 17, 1918

The death of Mrs. Lottie [Leota] Ethel Houser, wife of the late Fred A. Houser, occurred at Eagle Grove Thursday, October 17, at 1:00 pm death resulting from pneumonia and complications following an attack of Spanish influenza. Her death followed that of her husband from similar sickness by only five days. The body was brought to the Overton undertaking parlor Friday evening, being taken direct from there to Mt. Ararat cemetery at 1:30 this afternoon, where short funeral services were held of a private nature.

The death brings unusual sadness as within less than a week the two children both girls and aged 5 and 2 years, are called upon to give up both father and mother. Both parents were stricken with influenza early last week, the father passing away Saturday. The shock and grief brought to the wife and mother by his death was possibly instrumental in weakening her to the extent that the disease developed into pneumonia and other complications causing her death five days later.

Mrs. Houser was formerly Miss Lottie Yore, and was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. I. Yore of this city. She was born in Downing, Mo., but for some time before her marriage she had resided in Centerville. The parents of Mr. Houser are also living, they being Mr. and Mrs. T. Houser. About six years ago Miss Yore became the wife of Fred A. Houser, and to this union was born two children, who survive. Two years ago they moved to Eagle Grove, where he was employed at railroad work. Both numerous friends and acquaintances here who sorrow with the bereaved relatives. While no definite arrangements have been made for the care of the children who became orphans in such a short time, it is understood they will make their homes with grandparents.
