MRS. PERCY TANFIELD

As reported in last week's Democrat, Mrs. Percy M. Tanfield, the former Florence Lincoln, passed away Monday, May 16, at the Happy Siesta Nursing Home in Remsen, where she had been a resident 4-1/2 years. Further information was not available last week.

Mrs. Tanfield was born May 9, 1894, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. S. A. Lincoln, Sr., of Alton. She attended the Alton Public Schools, Rockford College, and the University of Iowa. Following graduation she taught High School English in Eagle Grove, Spencer, and Sioux City. She also taught one year in Puerto Rico and four years in the Philippine Islands. Mr. and Mrs. Tanfield were married in Hong Kong in 1934. They made their home in Saigon, French Indo-China until 1940, leaving just before the Japanese invasion. They then returned to Alton. Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Henry Shull of Sioux City, a brother, Mr. S. A. Lincoln, Jr., of Alton, two step-children, two nieces and three nephews.

Funeral services were held Friday, May 20 at the Van Etten-Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City. The Rev. Ralph Brink of Morningside College officiated. The Nassau Township Cemetery is the place of interment. A memorial in Mrs. Tanfield's name has been established with the American Cancer Society.
