Death of Mrs. McQuaid

Amanda Jane McQuaid - Died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W. H. McCurry, July 15, 1895, aged 63 years and 3 months. The deceased was born at Mansfield, Richland county, Ohio, April 15, 1895. She was the third daughter of a large family of children and was carefully trained by her parents who were members of the Presbyterian church. On the 15th of January 1858, she was married to Silas McQuaid at Marengo, Iowa. Nine children were a result of this union. The family resided for years near Renwick, Iowa, but three years ago they moved to near Ft. Dodge, which has been their home. On the 11 of April last, Mrs. McQuaid came to the home of Mrs. Wm. McCurry, her daughter, that she might receive medical treatment. Since that time she has been gradually growing weaker till cancer of the stomach finally exhausted her and at 11:30 on the night of July 15, she quietly passed away. The funeral was held at the McCurry home on the following day at 2 p.m. Rev. H. L. Case conducting the services with the lesson "For he knoweth the way that I take and when he hath tried me I shall come forth as gold," Job 23:10.

Her body was laid to rest in the Glenwood cemetery at Goldfield. Of her nine children, Samuel died some years ago. The remaining eight, Charley, John, William, Joseph and Abbie, Mrs. Fannie McCurry, Mrs. Mattie Shellemeyer and Mrs. Hortence Williams together with the loving husband and four sisters were privileged to be at her bedside and sorrowfully observe her setting sun. It was a kind providence that permitted her four sisters, Mrs. Springer, of Iowa City, Mrs. Delemetre, Mrs. W. H. Montgomery and Mrs. Tittler to be with her in the last hours. Seven grandchildren with those relatives mentioned and a large host of friends mourn the loss of one we loved.
