May 13, 1857 --- April 16, 1937

Rachel Chelesvig was born to the parents, Peter and Olena Chelesvig, May 13, 1857, in Olen, Sondhordland, Norway and died in her home near Nuel, Iowa, Friday evening, April 10, 1937, age 79 years, 11 months and 3 days. She was baptized into Christ in infancy, and came with her parents to America at the age of eight years, to Story County, Iowa. She received instruction and confessed her Christian faith in the Fjeldberg church, near Huxley, in the pastorate of Rev. Nils Amlund. She was united in marriage to Amund Nervig in February, 1882. Mr. and Mrs. Nervig moved to Wright County that same spring to their farm home where they lived since, and where Mr. Nervig passed away in 1917. Mr. and Mrs. Nervig contributed their share to the building up the community, and were among the charter members of the North Enes Lutheran church, which since has been united with the Evangelical Lutheran church.

Eight children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Nervig, one son Joseph passing away Dec. 2, 1930. Those living are Severt, Ole, and Martin all of this community. Mrs. Helen Ryerson of Thompson, Iowa, Peter Nervig of LaCenter, Wash., Amos Nervig of St. Paul, Minn., and Mrs. Mabel Anfinson of Nevada, Iowa. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Lizzie Anderson and two brothers, Ole and Tom Chelesvig, all of Huxley, Iowa.

Mrs. Nervig was a quiet, kind, and dutiful wife and mother. Her well worn Bible bears a living testimony of her sincere love for God’s Word where she found strength to bear up in life.

Funeral services were held Monday, April 19 from the home and her church in Eagle Grove. May God bless the memory of this kind neighbor and mother. Those from out of town who attended the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. James Nervig, Mr. and Mrs. Eric Nervig of Humboldt, Mr. and Mrs. E. O. Nervig, Mr. and Mrs. O. H.
