May 6, 1863 --- July 19, 1942

John Willis Middleton, second son of John L. and Lavinia McPherson Middleton, was born May 6, 1863 on the farm which is now the Frank Newcomb homestead. He died Sunday morning, July 19th, after a lingering illness. He received his education in the Troy schools and came to Eagle Grove with his parents where he has made his home since. He worked with his brother, Allen Middleton, in the contracting business. In 1900 and for three winters following he went to Florida with his uncle, Elmore Middleton, to work in the lumber mills.

On Nov. 11, 1888, he was united in marriage with Frances Matilda Wheatley of Eagle Grove. They celebrated their golden anniversary here four years ago. Four children were born to this union, Mrs. Nellie Strain of this city, Mrs. Delia Mattison of Washington, D. C, Mrs. Blanche O'Malley of Oregon, and Capt. Phillip Middleton of Fort Knox, Ky. He is also survived by thirteen grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. Dora Gunderson of Humboldt.

The funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 2.30 at the Methodist church in charge of Rev. R. Tumbleson, but because of the fact that Mrs. O'Malley is coming, the burial service will be held at the Kubitschek & Kastler Funeral Home Friday afternoon at 1:30, followed by interment at Rose Hill Cemetery.
