Dr. Seth Huntington, 60, pastor of the First Congregational church at Salem, Ore., since 1945, passed away at his home on June 1. His death was caused by a heart attack. He had conducted his usual Sunday services the day before. The deceased was born in Belmond in 1892 and was a graduate of Belmond high school with the class of 1912. He was married to Edna Boughton of Belmond in 1914 and they were the parents of three children: Seth Jr. of Yankton, S.D. Mrs. J. Keiser of Chicago and Mrs. M. Stephens of Pacific, MO. In 1924 he received his B.A. degree at Coe College, Cedar Rapids; in 1930 a bachelor of divinity degree from Chicago Theological seminary; and in 1941 a D.D. from Berea College, KY. Before his ordination in 1930 he served as student pastor at Dinsdale Congregational church and the Presbyterian church at Garrison. From 1925 until his ordination, he served the First Congregational church at Crystal Lake, Ill. In 1941 he became pastor of the Congregational church in Rapid City, S.D., and from there to the Congregational church in Dalles, Ore., in 1943. The last eight years he has been the pastor of the Congregational church at Salem, Ore., and was launching a project for an addition to the church at the time of his death. Funeral services were held at his church on June 3, and burial was in Belcrest cemetery at Salem. Dr. Huntington visited relatives in Belmond several times and delivered the sermon in his home church.
