CHARLES DOWELL DIES AT PARSONS
Charles Reuben Dowell, 86, Route 3, Parsons, who had been a blacksmith at Bartlett more than 40 years, died Monday, December 18, 1961 in the Labette County Medical Center. He entered the hospital Sunday morning December 17th. His birthplace was Holmes, Iowa. Dowell came to Kansas, as a youth with his parents. He was married to Nellie Lerch. After her death, he was married in 1933 to Mrs. Stella Bendure at Vinita, Okla. She survives. Dowell was a member of the Bartlett Methodist Church. Other survivors include two stepsons, Albert Lerch, who lives in Nevada, and W. N. Bendure, Route 3, Parsons: three step-daughters, Mrs. Orval Martin, rural Edna, Mrs. Roy Roach, Valdosta, Ga. and Mrs. Harry McWhirt, Selma, Ala; a sister, Mrs. Nancy Stroud, Independence, 16 step grandchildren and seven step great grandchildren. Funeral arrangements will be announced by the Goodwin Funeral Home.
