Daryl Akers, of Clear Lake, Iowa formerly Mason City, Iowa died Tuesday March 25, 2014 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City, Iowa. Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday March 29, 2014 at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. 4th St., Clear Lake with Pastor Will Hunsaker officiating. The family ask that you please dress casual. Family will greet friends one hour before the service. Inurnment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City with military honors provided by Clear Lake V.F.W. Family suggests memorials to Daryl Akers memorial fund.
Daryl was born Oct. 1, 1928 in Blaine [Blaine Township, Wright County], Iowa the son of Louis W. and Tillie Bernice (Tysdal) Akers. He graduated from Albert City High School class of 1946. After graduating from high school, he entered the hardware business with his father in Albert City. Later he began career at the First National Bank of Clarion. His banking career was interrupted by a tour of duty in the Army during the Korean War. He married Darlene Stevens April 8, 1950 at the Little Brown Church, Nashua, Iowa.
He joined the First National Bank of Mason City in June 1957 as head teller and later managed the First Drive-In Bank. He had completed the American Institute pre-standard curriculum. He later drove motor homes for Lifetime Motorhomes and traveled throughout United States and later worked for Midwest Wholesale until he retired. After he retired he did deliveries for Lane Brothers and delivered cars for car dealers in the area. He enjoyed spending time with his family. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Mason City, American Legion and former member of the Elks.
Daryl is survived by his son Mark (Sue) Akers, Clear Lake, Iowa and his two grandchildren Jennifer and Steven Akers, Clear Lake, Iowa and a brother Jon Akers, Las Vegas, Nevada. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Darlene and his sister Bernadine Whipple. Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, Iowa.
