Jeffers, Minn., Review: John Holck passed quietly away at his home following an illness of two weeks due to heart trouble.

John Henry Holck was born in Wesselburen, Germany, in the province of Schleswig-Holstien, on February 7, 1866. He was baptized in early infancy to the Lutheran faith, and confirmed at the age of fifteen. In 1881 he came to America with his parents and settled at Rock Island, Ill. In the spring of 1882 he came to Humboldt county in Iowa and started his work on a farm.

On December 20, 1891, he was united in marriage to Emma Tanck. To this union ten children were born, including a daughter, Meta, who died in infancy. All live in the vicinity of Jeffers, namely: Arthur, William, Clara, Agnes, Mrs. Lillian Gilbertson, Carl, Mrs. Ada Giese, Leo and Hazel. In 1905 Mr. Holck moved with his family to Jeffers, Minn., where he rented the Noble farm. After living there for eight years he bought land of his own and built his home where he lived until the time of his death.

Two weeks ago he was taken suddenly ill with a heart attack. After several days he started to improved and just as relative and friends gained hope of his recovery, he passed quietly away at 5 o'clock Saturday morning, May 21, at the age of 56 years and 3 months.

Mr. Holck was a member of the M. W. A. Lodge of Jeffers. He took an active part in affairs of his community, and faithfully served the Amboy town board for many years, filling the capacity of road supervisor. In the past he has served on the school board. Since the organization of the Jeffers Co-operative Creamery Association he has been a member of the Board of Directors.

Besides his wife and children he leaves to mourn his death, two sisters, Mrs. John Nagel of Mason City, Iowa, and Mrs. Mary Gilbertson of Jeffers; five brothers, Henry of Kanawha, Iowa, and Nick, Peter, Fritz and Gust of Jeffers; also eight grandchildren. Two sisters and one brother preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the home and then from the Methodist church, Rev. Galer officiating with Rev. Kain of Sleepy Eye, assisting. The remains were laid to rest in the Jeffers cemetery. The pallbearers were: C. R. Duroe, Chas. Herring, S. H. Crist, D. E. Noble, Ole Goline and Adolph Graff.

That Mr. Holck was held in high esteem by everyone in Jeffers and community was evidenced by the large crowd which gathered Tuesday afternoon to pay their last tribute to him and by the many beautiful floral offerings.

Those from out of town who attended the funeral were: Dr. and Mrs. W. H. Long, Mrs. Henry Foster, Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Tanck, Mr. and Mrs. Calla Tanck, Mrs. J. I. Peer, Mrs. Robert McGowan, Mrs. Henry Blumer, Mr. and Mrs. Jake Kubly, Mr. and Mrs. Wilburt Kubly, Mr. and Mrs. Art Kraft, George and Fred Kraft of Renwick; Mrs. John Nagel and two sons of Mason City, Iowa; Henry Holck and Kermit of Kanawha, Iowa; Mrs. Fred Holck, Mr. and Mrs. Geo.
