March 5, 1923 --- August 19, 2014

MANLY, IA --- LaVonne Hanson, 91, of Manly, IA, returned to her Heavenly Father peacefully on Tuesday, August 19, 2014. A visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, August 22, 2014, at Fullerton Funeral Home, 123 2nd St. S.E. in Mason City. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 23, 2014, at Wesley United Methodist Church, 1405 S. Pennsylvania Ave. in Mason City, with Reverend Ed Bard officiating. Interment will follow at Belmond Cemetery in Belmond, IA.

LaVonne was born in Madison, South Dakota, March 5, 1923, to Clarence and Linda (Nystrom) Clark. Her family moved to Worthington, MN, when she was entering the first grade. She continued her education in Worthington until graduating from Worthington High School. She had three other siblings and grew up the youngest. She went to college in Worthington and worked at the Worthmore Creamery and Produce until she met and married Roger Hanson from Belmond. Roger and LaVonne were united in marriage in Vermillion, South Dakota, on October 18, 1947. Together they made their home on a farm in the Belmond area.

LaVonne and Roger moved to Mason City in 1965, where they resided permanently. Roger passed away in 1977 and shortly after that LaVonne started working. She took a job with E.F. Johnson's in Mason City and worked there a few months until she started with Rockwell International. She worked there until retirement. LaVonne bought her own home in Mason City and lived on her own until 2011, when she moved to Manly to live with her daughter. LaVonne and Roger raised 7 children together, five boys and two girls. Life wasn't easy but LaVonne kept her focus on what the Lord had given her in life with no complaining. She was a very quiet and reserved lady. She treasured her children and grandchildren. She loved to give all she could and her grandchildren always received Valentines, Easter baskets, and Christmas gifts. She never missed their birthdays. They were the highlights of her life whenever they came to visit her.

In her free time she liked to read and do crosswords from the newspaper. LaVonne loved her pets, they were great companions. She had a dog named Murphy and a cat named Purrcy whom she loved dearly. LaVonne never learned to drive a car and never had any interest to learn. She rode the bus to get around and accepted rides from her children and friends to get to work; she never missed a day. She was very grateful that she could work outside the home to make her own way in life.

Those left to cherish her memory include her four sons, Loren (Diane) Hanson of Mason City, Eugene Hanson of Woodward, Dennis Hanson of Albert Lea, MN, and Ronnie (Tammi) Hanson of Mason City; two daughters, Lois Schwartz of Manly and Linda Thayer of Westfield, WI; daughter-in-law, Diane (Terry) Hanson of Corwith; sister, Lucille Kraft of Alexandria, MN; brother-in-law, Dale Walrod of Belmond and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roger Hanson; son, Terry Hanson; grandson, Scotty Phifer, granddaughter, Amanda Gomez; son-in-law, Claude Thayer; sister-in-law, Nadine Walrod; niece, Cindy Gorman; brother, Carlos Clark and sister, Floris Tolk and their spouses; and her parents. Fullerton Funeral Home, 123 2nd St SE, Mason City, IA.
