Norma Viola (Rhiner) Brown, the daughter of George A. and Lucinda Jane (Smith) Rhiner, was born March 4, 1920, in Pope Joy, Iowa. Norma graduated from Goldfield High School in 1937. On December 10, 1938, Norma was united in marriage with Robert "Pat" Brown at the First Baptist Parsonage in Eagle Grove. The couple made their home together in Eagle Grove for 67 years, where they owned and operated Pat's Market from 1949 to 1984.

Norma was a member of the United Methodist Church in Goldfield and the First Baptist Church in Eagle Grove. She taught Sunday school, served on various women's groups, as president for women's missions, as a Cub Scout Den mother, on Meals on Wheels Board and was a member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary.

Norma passed away on Friday, August 29, 2014, at Rotary Senior Living in Eagle Grove at the age of 94 years. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Pat Brown; brother, George J. Rhiner; sisters, Anna Fryslie, Irma Nelson and Esther Lund and grandson, Kevin McCutcheon. Survivors include her children, Patricia McCutcheon and husband Robert of Eagle Grove and Steven R. Brown and wife Jennifer of Fort Dodge; 3 grandchildren: Marcy Kressin and husband Robert of Mascoutah, IL, Erin Guddall and husband Derek of Fort Dodge and Emery Brown and wife Rhiannon of Des Moines; 5 great-grandchildren: Kacey Williams of Mascoutah, IL, Belleville, IL, Kyle Kressin of Belleville, IL, Kari Marvets (Jason) of Eagle Grove, Kolten McCutcheon of Eagle Grove, Samuel and Alex Guddall of Fort Dodge and Dorian and Emmett Brown of Des Moines and 4 great great-grandchildren: Chayse Williams and Susan, CC and Lucy Kressin.

Funeral Services will be held Monday, September 1, 2014, 10:30 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Eagle Grove with Pastor Dr.Fran Pettigrew officiating. Visitation will be Sunday from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. at Foust Funeral Home in Eagle Grove. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
