August 9, 1929 --- July 22, 2011

Marvin Adelmund, age 81, of Parkersburg, Iowa was born on August 9, 1929, the son of Abbie and Effie (Mehmen) Adelmund near Swanton, Iowa. He received his education in Parkersburg, graduating in 1948. On February 14, 1950, Marvin was united in marriage with Elizabeth Lois Knock in Clarion, Iowa. The couple made their home in Parkersburg, first living behind the Thole Cramer Grocery Store before eventually building a home of their own. Marvin worked for John Simon at the service station and for Butler County before going to work for his father-in-law at Knock’s Lumberyard. Marvin and his brother LeRoy bought the lumberyard where he continued to work until his retirement in 1981 when the business was sold.

Marvin was a member of First Congregational Church in Parkersburg and was baptized with his granddaughter at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. In his spare time, Marvin enjoyed bowling, hunting, fishing, trapping and played on the Parkersburg Baseball Team. He liked to golf and was on championship winning men’s leagues in both Parkersburg and Aplington. Marvin centered his life around his family. Marvin took pride in his children and grandchildren and especially enjoyed going to their school and sports events. Family vacations to Minnesota were important to Marvin, as were trips to Arizona to visit their son Gary.

Marvin died Friday, July 22, 2011, at home. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, LeRoy Adelmund; one sister, Elsie Church; and one brother-in-law, Lloyd Church.
