Evelyn Ida Boyington was born on April 28, 1917, to Clarence and Mildred (Bates) Hill at their farm home near Dows in Wright County, Iowa. She grew up on the farm and attended Blaine School No. 6, a rural one room school, in Wright county, Iowa, thru the 8th grade. Then entered Dows Public School in 1931, to complete 9th – 12th grade, graduating in 1935. After graduation, Evelyn continued to work at home helping her parents and brothers and sisters who were also farming on their own now. During this time, she met Wilson “Bill” Boyington and they were married at her parent’s home January 7, 1940.

Bill and Evelyn continued to farm on several locations throughout Wright, Hardin, and Story Counties until 1955, when they moved to the State Center, Iowa, area where Bill started working at State Center Farmers Creamery. The couple and their children became members of the United Methodist Church, Evelyn being active in the Sunday School and the U.M.W. As time went by, the children became older and more self-sufficient, allowing Evelyn to work outside the home for the West Marshall School Food Service Department. She also enjoyed working with her many flowers, both outside and inside the home. Her up-bringing had made her an excellent cook as well as seamstress. In later years, her piano, embroidery work, and quilt making became her way of enjoying time as she remained in her own home until the past few months when at the age of 95, she entered a care facility.

Survivors include her children, Ronald (Arlys) Boyington of Marshalltown, Iowa; Harold Boyington of Thornton, Colorado; Barbara (Larry) Duncan of Montour, Iowa; Marcia (Rick) Bessman-Naylor of Des Moines, Iowa; Pamela Troutner of Newton Iowa; and Deanna (Jim) Moeller of Holland, Iowa; 12 grandchildren; and 16 great grandchildren. Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; 5 brothers; 4 sisters; husband, Wilson “Bill” Boyington; daughter, Sandra Brown; son-in-law, James Troutner; grandson, Brandon Boyington; and grandson, Daniel Moeller.
