HOLMES RESIDENT PASSES AWAY
HOLMES - John Crawford Peterson, oldest child of George and Margaret Crawford Peterson was born near Grand Ridge, Ill., May 3 or 8, 1859, and passed away April 4, 1961 at the home of his son, Arthur. In early childhood he joined a German Methodist Church in the country near Grand Ridge. On February 24th, 1892, he was united in marriage to Mary Christina Schmids (Smith). In 1901 (?), he moved his wife and three children to Iowa locating on his farm a mile south of Holmes where they lived for sixty-two years. To this union was born one daughter, Carrie, Mrs. Joe Duitscher of Eagle Grove, and Ralph, Arthur, Howard and George F. of near Holmes. His wife passed away on April 7, 1954, seven years ago to the day of his funeral. Five brothers and his parents preceded him in death. He leaves to mourn his passing, his five children, nineteen grandchildren, and forty-six great-grandchildren.

He served on the church board for many years, was a school director, township trustee, assessor and was a charter member of the Holmes Co-op Elevator, and was a Wright County Supervisor for fifteen years. Pallbearers were grandsons, W.Jack Peterson, Duane Peterson, Delmar Duitscher, Joel Duitscher, Ray Duitscher, and G. John Peterson of Clarion, Frank Peterson of Kamrar and J. Richard Peterson of Eagles Grove. "Beyond the Sunset" and "God Will Take Care of Me" was sang by Leonard Madison and Mrs. Conger Whyte accompanied by organist Mrs. Lesterburg and Rev. B.R. Price of Goldfield Methodist Church officiated. Interment was in the Clarion Cemetery.

J. C. PETERSON DIES AT 91 YEARS
Funeral services will be held Friday at 1:30 at the Methodist church in Goldfield for John Peterson, 91. He passed away Tuesday April 4 at the home of his son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Peterson. The Rev. B. R. Price will officiate and burial will be in Clarion Evergreen cemetery. Mr. Peterson came to Wright county from Grand Ridge, Illinois in 1900 and has lived in the Holmes vicinity since that time. He is survived by his daughter, Mrs. Joe Duitscher of Eagle Grove and four sons, George and Ralph of Clarion, Howard and Arthur of Eagle Grove; 19 grandchildren and 43 great-grandchildren.
