Myrtle Mae Evans, daughter of Penry and Ellen Evans, was born on a farm in Woolstock Township, Wright County, Iowa; May 31, 1891, where she lived until moving to Eagle Grove with her parents in 1907. She graduated from Eagle Grove High School, later attending business college in Cedar Rapids, and spent her years before marriage as a stenographer.

On February 19, 1916 she married Spencer Smith of Eagle Grove. to this union three children were born: Spencer B., Mary Ellen, and Ellwyn. During her high school days she accepted Christ as her Saviour. As a member of this church she served faithfully and earnestly as church pianist, Sunday School superintendent, and also as Sunday School teacher. She has expressed numerous times, the joy and satisfaction she received in serving Christ and the Church.

She passed away at her home in Troy Township, May 12, 1948, at 11:40 a.m., at the age of 58 years, 11 months, 12 days. She is survived by her husband, Spencer, three children: Spencer B., Mary Ellen, and Ellwyn; four sisters and two brothers: Mary Frakes, of Woolstock, Elizabeth Puffett of Ames, Maude Frakes of Webster City, Blanche Evans of Albuquerque, New Mexico, James Evans of Webster City, Harvey Evans of Woolstock. One brother, George Evans of Webster City, preceded her in death three years ago. Two grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and a host of friends, also survive.
