The Rev. Ralph Whiting Adamson was born Feb. 19, 1929 in Rowan, Iowa to Ralph W. Adamson and Helen Whiting Adamson. He died May 28, 2014. On June 12, 1953 he married Naomi Marie Oak in Edgington, Ill., and to this union was born four children. A memorial service will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m., at the First Presbyterian Church of Vandalia with visitation starting at 10 a.m.

He is survived by his wife, Naomi Adamson; children, Ann (Steve); Ralph; (Cathy); Ruth (Bill); and John (Pam) and nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters. He was ordained to the gospel ministry on July 11, 1954 by the Presbytery of Rock River of the Presbyterian Church in the United States of America. He served as pastor of the Sherrard Community and Pleasant Ridge Presbyterian Churches, Sherrard, Ill.; the First Presbyterian Church of Adair, Iowa; the First Presbyterian Church of Tipton, Iowa; the First United Presbyterian Church of Bushnell, Illinois; the First Presbyterian Church of Vandalia (1975-1985); the Marais des Cygnes Presbyterian Larger Parish, Osawatomie, Kan., including the Miami Presbyterian Church of Louisburg, Community Presbyterian Church of Rantoul, and First Presbyterian Church, Osawatomie, Kan.; and the Presbyterian Church of Christ, Mt. Sterling, Ill. He also served for two years as program director of Camp Wyoming, Eastern Iowa Presbyterian Camp, Wyoming, Iowa. He retired from the active ministry on Feb. 28, 1994. He was a member of Great Rivers Presbytery, the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.).

He was a lifelong model railroader and a member of the Quincy Society of Model Engineers. He was a 50 year veteran member of the Boy Scouts of America having attained the rank of Eagle Scout in his youth. The Rev. Adamson was also a volunteer Chaplain at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Ill. Memorials may be made to Quincy Presbyterian Church, Quincy, Ill., or Tri-County Care Center Vandalia.
