Gerd Judith Nesheim was born on September 4, 1947 in Haugesund, Norway, the daughter of Reinert and Borghild Bua Nesheim. At the age of two she moved with her family to Brooklyn, N.Y. She attended public schools, graduating from Bay Ridge High School, an all-girls school, in 1965. She took a legal secretarial course at Kingsborough Community College and graduated with an Associate in Arts degree in 1967. For seven years she was employed at the offices of Keith Clark, Inc. in New York City. She was active in Trinity Lutheran Church in Brooklyn, where she taught Sunday School and served on the church council. At Trinity she met her husband-to be, Carlton Shaw, who had come to serve that parish as an assistant pastor. They were united in marriage on June 9, 1973 at Brooklyn, N.Y. The couple continued to live in Brooklyn, and their first child, Eric Carlton, was born May 8, 1974. In 1975 the family moved to Dundalk, Md. in the Greater Baltimore area where her husband was pastor of Good Shepherd Ev. Lutheran Church. Their daughter Beth Rachel was born June 24, 1978. Gerd was employed part-time at Zandy's Insurance Agency in Dundalk.

In May of 1984 the Shaws moved to Eagle Grove, Iowa to serve Samuel and Holmes Lutheran Parish. Their third child, Andrew Jonathan, was born July 4, 1984. Gerd worked part-time at the Family Table Restaurant in Eagle Grove. Then for a year and a half she was office secretary for Samuel and Holmes Churches. Due to her illness she had to discontinue working. After battling cancer for almost four years, Gerd died May 8, 1995 at age 47.

She is survived by her husband, Carlton; children Eric, Beth and Andrew of Eagle Grove; her mother Borghild Nesheim of Brooklyn, N.Y.; one brother, Robert Nesheim of Fords, N.J. She was preceded in death by her father.

Funeral services for Gerd Judith Shaw were held at Samuel Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove on May 10, 1995 at 1:30 p.m. with Bishop Curtis Miller and the Revs. Lyle Peters, H. W. Schiller and William Granger officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. Willim Funeral Home was
in charge of arrangements.
