December 31, 1938 --- June 2, 2014

Allen D. Dencklau, 75 of Vincent, IA passed away on Monday June 2, 2014 at the Villa Care Center in Fort Dodge. The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday June 5, 2014 at the South Enes Lutheran Church with burial following at Newark Township Cemetery, Vincent, IA. The visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services.

Allen was born on December 31, 1938 at the Lutheran Hospital in Fort Dodge. He was baptized at South Enes Lutheran Church in Vincent where he was also confirmed in 1952. He attended school thru the 8th grade at Newark number 5 school in Vincent. He graduated from high school in Eagle Grove, IA in 1957 and from Waldorf College in Forest City, IA in 1959. He then attended Mankato State College in Mankato, MN for one year and then returned to Vincent where he worked at Frudden Lumber Co. He went to work in April 1961 for Atkinson-Ostrander Construction Co. in Pierre, SD in the payroll department. They were building the power house on the Oahe Dam project. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in November of 1961 and discharged in November of 1963. He spent the majority of term at 1st field artillery missile brigade headquarters in Fort Sill, OK. He spent 11/2 years in the Army Reserves in Fort Dodge. He was employed at W&H Cooperative in Badger, IA from January 1964 thru June 3 1966. He was employed at Farmland Industries anhydrous ammonia plant south of Vincent from June 6, 1966 thru December 30, 1986. From 1989 until the age of 62 he was employed part time at New Cooperative in Vincent and at Farmland Industries.

He was a member of Vincent Lions Club and longtime member of South Enes Lutheran Church where he served on the council for 33 years. He was treasurer for 24 years and deacon for 9 years. Allen started spending the winters in Apache Junction, AZ in 1997 where he was a member of the Elks Club and American Legion. He attended Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Mesa, AZ.

Allen is survived by his sister-in-law Darlene (George Nolan) of CA; nephews John E. (Jan) Dencklau of Fort Dodge and Roger K. Dencklau of CA; his niece Anna Marie (Richard Fisher) of CA and 6 great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother Anna (Nelson) and father Walter; his brother Emery and his sister Nina Fortney. Memorials may be left to South Enes Lutheran Church in Vincent or to the discretion of the family.
