Gordon E. Classon, age 78, of Dows died Friday May 16, 2014 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient House in Mason City. Funeral services for Gordon E. Classon will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday May 20, 2014 at the Abundant Life Chapel in Dows. Pastor Bruce Klapp will officiate. Burial will take place in the Alden Cemetery. Graveside military rites will be conducted by the Dows American Legion Watson Beach Post #523. Visitation for Gordon E. Classon will be open to friends after 6:00 P.M. Monday May 19, 2014 at the Abundant Life Chapel and will continue one hour prior to services on Tuesday. Dugger Funeral Home, 300 Lee Street in Dows is in charge of arrangements.

Gordon Eugene, the son of Curtis and Laverne (Lu) Ericksen Classon was born September 5, 1935 in Dows. He grew up in Dows, where he attended school. Gordon graduated from Dows High School in 1954. After high school, Gordon worked for a time at the Ranch west of town. In 1955, Gordon was drafted into the U.S. Army and was deployed to the Korean Peninsula during the Korean Conflict as an Office Clerk. While in the Army, always the learner, Gordon learned to speak Korean. After returning from the conflict, Gordon met and married Toby Daniels. The couple made their home in Altoona, and were blessed with two daughers, Shelly and Sherri. Gordon worked as a truck driver for Super Sweet Feeds. During the seventies, Gordon returned to the Dows area. He worked for United Hydraulic in Hampton, IMT in Garner and finally retired from SeaBees in Hampton. On June 2, 1984, Gordon was united in marriage to Donna Soreson at the Abundant Life Chapel in Dows. Gordon and Donna made their home in Dows, and were blessed not only with a blended family, but another daughter, Missy Jo. Gordon was a very gifted and artistic man. He was an inventor. Gordon loved working and spending time on the computer. He enjoyed learning how the circuitry and components of the computers were put together. His mathematic skills made working on small machines and computers all the more interesting. Gordon loved his motorcycle and the outdoors and spent many days enjoying poker runs with his friends. Most of all he will be missed by all his loving family, and good times they would spend visiting while sharing a Bud Heavy. Gordon was a member of the Abundant Life Chapel in Dows.

Gordon is survived by is wife, Donna, children, Missy (Steve) Brannick of Iowa Falls, Shelly Classon of Norwalk, Sherri Classon of Indianola, Laurie Amsbaugh of Leon, Leslie Pedersen of Pea Ridge, AR, fourteen grandchildren, Tristan, Blaise, Mckailyn, Colton, Camden, Zach (Paige), Cassie, Shaylee (Matt), Mazy (Victor), Raychel(Andy), Hannah, Chelsey, Justin, Andrea, and seven great grandchildren, Lane, Hunter, Kiera, Nevaeh, J.J., Marcus, and one due this Christmas, a brother, Gary Classon of Hiawatha, and numerous other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Robert Classon, son, Jamie, three grandsons, James Baysinger, James Unger, and Jacob Pedersen.
