CLEAR LAKE, IA -- Myrleen M. Jones, 79, of Clear Lake, died Friday, May 16, 2014, at the Methodist Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota. A funeral service for Myrleen will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, May 21, 2014, at Ward Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., Clear Lake, with Pastor John Tank from Harvest Bible Chapel officiating. Burial will be held in the Graceland Cemetery, rural Rowan, following a light luncheon. A visitation with a public viewing will be held from 5 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, May 20, at Ward Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., Clear Lake. Visitation will also be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left in Myrleen’s name in care of her family.

Myrleen May Jones, daughter of the late Otis and Bereneice (Ford) Carpenter, was born Jan. 7, 1935, in Bethlehem, Iowa. She attended several country schools in Webster County before graduating from Lehigh High School in 1953. She was united in marriage to Wendel Jones on Feb. 14, 1956 in Rowan, where they farmed until his death in 1970. Myrleen then moved to Clear Lake in 1974 where she made her home. She worked for EF Johnson in 1974 until they closed in 1976 and began working for Curtis 1000, a printing business, and was employed by the Surf Ballroom as a coat checker, working for both companies for 26 years. Most recently, Myrleen was a foster grandparent for Charlie Brown Child Care for the past three years, adoring all of her babies.

She loved knitting and crocheting, jewelry making, enjoyed dancing and loved cooking and baking pies. She was a founding member of Harvest Bible Church in Clear Lake and was involved with the Clear Lake Lionesses for over 20 years. She was also a member of the Muddy Pond CB Club, as well as T.O.P.S.

She is survived by her sons, Kim (Lorrie) Jones of Dexter, Tim (Diane) Jones of Ventura, and Big Mike (Julie) Jones of Charles City; 8 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; a sister, Bonnie D. Sorber of Clear Lake; two sisters-in-law, Margrete Jones of Dows and Darline Jones of Belmond; along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Otis and Bereneice (Ford) Carpenter, husband Wendel Jones, and her brother William “Bill” Carpenter. Ward Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., Clear Lake, Iowa.
