Eagle Grove Mayor dies at age of 74

EAGLE GROVE — Harry Schoonover, 74, mayor of Eagle Grove for six years, died Monday afternoon. Dec. 3. after a heart attack suffered at his home the previous Saturday evening. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon. Dec. 5, at the Congregational church, Rev. Walter R. Ross officiating. He was a member of the Congregational church and Masonic orders and prominent in many civic affairs. Survivors include his wife and three daughters. Mrs. M. E. MacNaughton of Des Moines: Mrs. George Roscoe of Alden, Minn.; and Mrs. Loretta Barnes of Butterfield, Minn. Also surviving are two brothers. Fred Schoonover of Cherokee and Howard Schoonover of Eagle Grove. He had been a resident of Eagle Grove for 63 years and of Wright county 70 years. During most of his residence in Eagle Grove, he had operated a grocery business starting on the old east side in 1898. He retired in 1945.
