T. Haas, Youngstown, O.; Mrs. T. R. Riddel, Omaha; Mrs. Oscar Davis, Shell Rock.Mrs. C. J. Filer was born in Cedar Falls, Jan. 5, 1889. Her maiden name was Blanche Lucille Seavey. She was the daughter of George and Gertrude Seavey. Her childhood days were spent in the parental home in Cedar Falls where she also received her education in the public schools of that city. In early womanhood while living in Waterloo and working for the telephone exchange she made acquaintance with C. J. Filer of Cedar Falls. They were united in marriage on Feb. 23, 1909. They began their married life in Cedar Falls where Mr. Filer was employed by the Rock Island railroad. They lived there for five years, and then moved to Waterloo where they resided two years.
Due to the fact that Mr. Filer's work as station agent for the Rock Island called him to various towns in the central west, they lived for a time in Garden City, Iowa, then in Dows, Iowa, followed by residence in Titonka, Iowa; Watertown, South Dakota, and White, South Dakota, where they lived for some nine years. In October of 1924 they moved to Wellsburg where they have remained for these past 25 years. For a time they lived above the station, and later moved to their own home on College Ave. in Wellsburg. In the years of their residence in Wellsburg friends have come to know the departed as a devoted wife and mother with a loving interest in her home and family. During these past 18 years she suffered repeatedly from the effects of high blood pressure. On Oct. 24, 1947, she was stricken with a very severe stroke. For some fifteen days she was in a coma, but gradually began to show a slow and partial recovery. Her right side was completely paralyzed, and she also suffered a great deal of pain and discomfort due to her condition. For the most part she was confined to her bed these past twenty months, although she continued to live along as best she could with the interest of her family and children and waited upon herself as much as possible.
Mrs. Filer was known to her many friends as a lover of her home and respected for her unassuming Christian faith. She joined the Presbyterian church of White, So. Dak., upon her confession of faith in the Lord Jesus Christ in the year 1919. Later upon transfer of her membership she joined the Second Christian Reformed church of Wellsburg. She was devoted to the fellowship of the congregation and participated in her interests and welfare.
