Marvin Eugene Fawcett, the son of Clarence and Sylvia (Giddings) Fawcett, was born April 5, 1932, in Eagle Grove, Iowa. He was raised and educated in the area of his birth, graduating from Eagle Grove High School in 1950. On May 10, 1951, Marvin began his career serving in the United States Navy and served until his retirement on May 14, 1974. He then completed two years at Eagle Grove Junior College. On September 12, 1964, he married Naomi (Lewis) Brooks, at the Eagle Grove United Methodist Church. The couple made their home in Goldfield, and after Marvin’s retirement from the Navy, he worked as a rural mail carrier. Naomi preceded him in death on August 19, 2008. Marvin was a member of the Goldfield United Methodist Church, the V.F.W., and American Legion.

Marvin passed away on Thursday, May 1, 2014, at Rotary Senior Living in Eagle Grove, at the age of 82 years. He was also preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Wayne Fawcett (Mary Lou), and Bernard Fawcett; nephew, Gary Fawcett; stepson, Duane Brooks (Norma); step daughter-in-law, Shirley Brooks; brothers–in-law, Virgil Lewis, and Merle Sheets, and sisters-in-law, Iris Bisher, Ruth Lewis, and Marjorie Schauer. Survivors include his nieces and nephews: Nancy Fawcett of Eagle Grove, Kay Derscheid (Rick) of Eagle Grove, Wayne Fawcett of Las Vegas, Nevada, Glen Fawcett (Elaine) of Bastrop, Texas, Bernie Fawcett (Mary) of Port Orchard, Wash., and Susan Falkenstein of Bad Homburg, Germany; sister-in-laws, Rene Fawcett of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Bonnie Sheets of Goldfield; brothers-in-law, Glen Lewis of Olathe, Kansas, and Gene Lewis (Phyllis) of Clarion; step son, Robert Brooks of McEwen, Tenn.; step grandchildren, James Brooks also of McEwen, Wiley Brooks, Linda Brooks, and Alice Lucille Brooks-Seiber, all of Nashville, Tenn. Funeral services were held Monday, May 5, at 11 a.m. at the Goldfield United Methodist Church with Reverend Karen Dearchs officiating. Burial was held in Rose Hill Cemetery in Eagle Grove. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family. Foust Funeral Home of Eagle Grove was in charge of arrangements.
