BRITT - Margaret Hannah (Norem) Sweers, passed away Wednesday, April 23, 2014, at the Brandon Hospital in Brandon, Fla. Margaret, the daughter of Roscoe and Hannah Norem, was born May 6, 1924, in Belmond. She attended school in Fertile and graduated in 1944. Margaret married Jake Sweers in Albert Lea, Minn., on Jan. 25, 1950. The couple lived on the Sweers family farm until the spring of 1952, when they moved to a farm four miles north of Wesley, where they lived until moving to the property by Woden in August of 1985. Margaret lived there until Jake’s passing. She moved to the Brandon, Fla., area in 1999 and lived there until passing.
Margaret’s favorite pastime’s were gardening, playing cards, and in later life motor home traveling with Jake during the winter months and camping with family/friends during the summer. Her true calling was her ability to help whenever asked. She was also known for her cooking…you never left the Sweers' farm hungry. She was a proud farming wife, wonderful mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Britt.
She is survived by her four children, Gary (Wendy), Valrico, Fla.; John (Conni) of Wesley; Linda (Greg) Kohl of Plymouth, Minn.; Jean (Mac) Beukema of Chesterfield, Va.; sister, Gereene (James) Moen and her family and brother Robert (Joan) Norem and his family; grandchildren are Greg (Aprile), Lisa and Alan; Erin (Bob) Padgett, Kelly (Becca), Scott and Chris; Molly (Kevin) Graebel, Amy and Jeffrey Kohl; Jessie (Dave) Miller and Lacey (Mike) Marusienski; great grandchildren are Shepherd and Landon; Halle and Caroline Padgett; Kayla and Madelyn Graebel; Hannah and Luke Miller. Margaret is also survived by many dear family members and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband Jake Sweers, infant sister Mildred and infant brother Raymond and her parents Roscoe and Hannah Norem. Margaret is also preceded in death by many family and friends.
Memorials directed to Alzheimer’s Foundation Research in lieu of flowers. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. with a service following at 7:30 p.m. on May at the Britt United Methodist Church, Britt.
